This page provides  information on "TWI for the Children's" work in development  of the Learning Center and how the  Learning Center is assisting  children with Special Needs in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.  

  • The Learning Center provides daily care and learning opportunities for children with Special Needs  children while their families are working or attending to family matters. 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The facility is operated by mothers of  children with special needs and offers tailored  learning opportunities for severely special needs children. Additionally, the Learning Center provides education for  families of special needs children in Sarajevo. 

 

"The Learning Center for Children with Special Needs"  located in Sarajevo , Bosnia-Herzegovina  provides special educational opportunities for children with disabilities in addition to the schooling provided in public school. The Center provides a daily opportunity for parents with special needs children to bring their children to receive individual attention to their problems. The  Learning Center provides educational opportunities and daily care for special needs children while their families are working or attending to family matters. The Center also provides a place where the special needs child can adjust to society with normal children. The facility is operated by mothers of special needs children and offers learning opportunities as well as much needed relief and support for the families of these children in Sarajevo.   

 

In November 2002, mothers of special needs children in Sarajevo began a pilot project to establish a Day Care Learning Center for special needs children. This center was established in a school in Sarajevo and now works with special needs children five-days each week.  The Center  teaches basic educational lessons and provides physical-therapy for the special needs children. 

 

The staff of the Learning Center worked without pay for the first 3-months of 2004 as the cost of operations could not be adequately funded by TWI for the Children.   Beginning in 2005, TWI for the Children was able to make financial assistance to help expand the Learning Center and to help pay for the staff. The "Learning Center" continues to operate, but  TWI for the Children  must annually evaluate the amount of funding it can afford to provide to this valuable project.  

In January 2005, the Learning Center began a program to provide Music Training to the  children with special needs attending the Learning Center. Read about the  project to provide Musical Training at the Learning Center.
